VMware Horizon suite 6.x editions and comparison

Horizon suite 6.X with View is available in 3 editions as below:
    • VMware Horizon Standard Edition
    • VMware Horizon Advanced Edition 
    • VMware Horizon Enterprise Edition
  • VMware Horizon Standard Edition: 

This edition provides a simple yet powerful virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) solution. This version includes a standalone version of below listed components.
    • VMware View
    • ThinApp
    • VMware vSphere Desktop
    • VMware vCenter Desktop
Horizon View Standard Edition and its components are licensed per concurrent connection. The per concurrent connection license model is for virtual environments with a high number of users who share machines throughout the day, such as students and shift workers.

  • VMware Horizon Advanced Edition: 
This edition includes all the components of standard edition and also provides the flexibility to deliver desktops and applications across any device (physical/virtual) with automation. 

This edition includes the following components:
    • Hosted applications (RDSH)
    • VMware Workspace 
    • VMware Virtual SAN 
    • Image management using Mirage and VMware Fusion® Pro
This edition is available with concurrent user and named user licensing models. 

The per named user license model is for virtual environments with staff that need dedicated access to a virtual machine throughout the day.


VMware Identity Manager is replacing Workspace Portal in the Horizon 6 Advanced and Enterprise editions.
  • VMware Horizon® Enterprise Edition: 
This edition aims to build an enterprise-ready cloud with the orchestration and automation that is required. In addition to the features in Horizon View Standard Edition and Horizon Advanced Edition, Horizon Enterprise Edition includes the following:
    • VMware vRealize Operations Manager for Horizon for monitoring system health 
    • VMware vCenter Orchestrator plug-in to allow IT organizations to leverage Orchestrator 
    • VMware vCloud Automation Center for automated provisioning of desktops and applications

This edition is available with concurrent user and named user licensing model. 

  • vSphere Desktop included in Horizon Editions has the same features and functionality of VMware vSphere Enterprise Plus Edition. So you can use existing licenses of vSphere enterprise plus for VDI.
  • All editions are available in quantities of 10 or 100 licenses.
